The photo of the dynamo was scanned from an old book and the copyright on it has expired.  Therefore there is no problem using that one.

Brush Family is Coming

We received this email from Charles Brush IV, who is coming to Wabash for the celebration.

I thoroughly enjoyed looking through your site and seeing the students' artwork.  We are looking forward to visiting your city next week and attending the celebration!

Charles Francis Brush

Charles F. Brush was born on March 17, 1849, ten miles east of Cleveland, Ohio at his parents' farm.  His father was Isaac Brush, and his mother was Delia Williams Phillips Brush.  As a child he was interested in science and electricity. He went to Cleveland’s Central High School where he accomplished building an arc lamp.  He wished to attend college but his parents could not afford it so his uncle on his mother's side gave him money to attend the University of Michigan.  In college he studied mining engineering.  His first job was an analytical (an-a-lit-ical) and consulting chemist, and his second job was to market pig iron and iron ore.  Afterwards, he wished to assemble a Dynamo Generator and finally succeeded in the summer of 1876.  He later invented the Brush light which was used to light large spaces outside.  It was also used to light the top of the courthouse in Wabash, Indiana at 8:00 P.M. on March 31, 1880. He owned a company that later merged with General Electric.  He became a very wealthy man who lived in a mansion in Cleveland, Ohio.
