Welcome Message

Welcome to the start of the 2012-2013 school year. We are glad you are here!  What an exciting year of learning we are anticipating.

• Each student has their own mobile device!. We call this 1:1. Many of our students come to us already fluent in the digital world. It is our responsibility to increase their learning in this area.
• 1:1 will increase student engagement and therefore their learning.

The mission of MSD of Wabash County is to build the mind and character of every student to produce positive citizens for the 21st century. What are the 21st century skills that our students need? (You may recognize these from what you see in the workplace today.)
  • Asking the right questions; solving new problems
  • Working in teams
  • Learning how to find, communicate, and apply
  • Initiative, leadership, taking responsible risks
  • Time management
  • Interacting in a multimedia, graphics based environment
We look forward to partnering with you to give your child the best possible education.

Sandra Weaver

Welcome to MSD Wabash County!

MSD of Wabash County serves students in five townships (except that portion of Noble Township which comprises Wabash City Schools) of southern Wabash County, covering 292 square miles in a beautiful, rural/small town environment.

The district consists of seven schools with about 2600 students. There are four elementary schools and three junior-senior high schools. One of the high schools is White's Jr.-Sr. High School which provides education for about 150 students from across the state who are residents at White's Residential and Family Services as a result of a court placement. In addition, the district is the LEA for special education services to students in four school districts.

Classroom Innovation Grant

Apple (C) iPad/Image courtesy Matt BuchananMetropolitan School District of Wabash County was one of only 22 school districts of 135 that applied to receive the prestigious Classroom Innovation Grant. The IDOE believes M. S. D. of Wabash County will promote educational innovation through the use of technology.

We will be establishing model classrooms using iPads and Macbooks. Walk into one classroom and see content being delivered not through textbooks, but through on-line media. Stroll down the hall and find other students not only reading content, but writing their own on wikis and blogs. We know students learn better when they are active participants in their own learning.

One example of digital media our students will be using is the Discovery Education Techbook.  Many of our fourth, fifth, and sixth graders will be using iPads purchased through the Classroom Innovation grant along with desktop computers to access digital media through the Techbook for Science class.

We will be able to collaborate with professional educators in the county, across the state and across the world. Staff will have professional development targeted to their proficiency level in order that they may provide top quality instruction to students through enhanced use of technology.

We are very excited and humbled by the opportunities the IDOE Classroom Innovation Grant will give us.  Check back often for updates!
