My “why” is multifaceted. First, I teach for protection. As a child, I could only dream that there were more people standing in the gap for me. I was in a home situation with a stepfather that adults should have recognized as dangerous. Teachers cared for my education but they did not go the extra mile to protect my well-being. I will always go above and beyond to protect my students. Secondly, I teach for my children. When I say “my” children, I mean both my classroom children and my actual children. The relationships that are formed, the family connections that are made, and the community that is built is priceless. My children are only mine for a short time and then they are grown. I want to make happy memories and give them opportunities to shine. Third, and finally, I teach because I believe it to be my God given calling. I come from a family of teachers and preachers. Many of my cousins and uncles have taught. My Grandpa preached and sang like he was competing with the angels. It is who I am and who I always will be. I love what I do so going to school is not work to me, it is my absolute honor and pleasure. Steve Jobs said, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” I honestly do love teaching with my whole heart.

I teach because I know that every day I am impacting the lives of our children. I feel driven to help young learners. I teach because I have children who need to know they are loved, that someone believes in them, and that they have so much potential. Being a teacher is a part of who I am. I teach because there were teachers in my life who impacted me as a learner. I teach because I am a Mom who knows there are more children out there who need me in their lives. I am blessed to be a teacher and learn from my students everyday. I teach because children are little miracles who have the potential to become the best they can be with the right encouragement.

I teach because I want all students to feel safe, loved, and important. I have a strong desire to provide students with a learning environment where differences are valued and students support each other when taking the necessary risks to learn and grow. I teach because I love kids!

I teach because I can personally connect to the struggles students can experience when coming from nontraditional backgrounds. This sort of perspective allows me to recognize how much of a difference a devoted teacher can make.

It is through creative experiences that we can understand the power of knowing that our own hands, heart, and mind can bring something into existence in this big, big world that wasn't here before. My passion is providing those creative experiences and revealing to my students their own power for creating new, original things in their world.

Why do I teach? My why boils down to helping kids. I want to know my kids have at least one safe place to go each day. I want to help our littlest learners get started off right, with a strong foundation and a lifelong love of learning.

To all my people who love to learn—
Let me help add to your passion for gaining knowledge and push you a little farther than you thought you could go.

To all my people who have felt like you cannot do it—
Let me help you discover that the best things are worth fighting for.

To all my families who worry—
Let me take care of your child like I do my own.

To all my people who need a nudge to try—
Let me help you see that hard work is rewarding.

To all my families who need another person on their team—
Let me join your child-raising village.

To all my people who have ever felt lonely, unwelcomed, unnoticed—
I see you and know that you are precious, capable, and the work you do matters.

To all my people that want the world to be a better place—
I am a teacher, and I show up every day to help make that happen.

Ever since I was a young girl, I have felt called by God to be a teacher. I have always loved learning and wanted to share this joy with others. I became a teacher to impact students’ lives the way my teachers impacted mine. I believe that every child deserves to feel valued, encouraged, inspired, and capable in my classroom. My “why” is to make sure that every student feels that they can succeed and grow every day.

In high school I had a teacher who inspired me and recognized my potential to be a teacher. She allowed me every opportunity to work with students in a variety of classrooms throughout my senior year. Now that I am a teacher, I want to be just like my teacher and inspire students to recognize their potential and help them to achieve it.

My "why" has been the inspiration of the teachers I had during my elementary school career. They created a supportive, loving environment that made learning, growing, and expression safe. They fostered my lifelong commitment to compassion, service, and learning. I want to create the same school experience for students.

I teach because school should be a safe, JOYFUL place where students feel the freedom to try, fail, succeed and persevere. Every student deserves unconditional love, support and someone who won’t give up on them. I became an educator to remind my kids about how wonderful they already are and the things they can accomplish if they work hard.

My why is very personal to me… “I want EVERY child to feel important. I want them to feel safe, loved, and valued no matter how small they are. Mistakes means we are learning and NOT a failed attempt at the impossible. I want my students to feel empowered to make those mistakes! That impossible will become the POSSIBLE when we try hard and try again. I didn’t always feel these things when growing up, so I want to create a classroom family that promotes a safe haven where we can GROW so big, preparing ourselves for not only kindergarten BUT FOR THE WORLD!!! And I will be cheering them on along the way for many years to come! For when they leave me, I want them to always know they have a teacher for LIFE!

I teach to provide a place for students to feel safe, loved, cared for, and have a sense of belonging. I want them to feel free to try, fail, and try again without reservation.

As Jennifer Dukes Lee said, "in a world where you can be anything, be kind!"

I became a Speech Language Pathologist in the school setting to become a positive, kind influence in the lives of children around me. My goal is to give them confidence, letting them know that they are important and that they matter. As a SLP my purpose is to give children a voice in a world that may otherwise be silent. Communication is vital in everyday life and by establishing exquisite communication skills now, we are preparing our future for exquisite leaders. I want to show kids that there is much more to life than sheer skill; that hard work and kindness go much further than talent. I want these children to see that they are perfect in their own ways and that comparing themselves to others is unfair. May each child that walks through my door know that they are loved and cared for far beyond these four walls. My "why" becomes much more than the language/articulation skills that I teach. My WHY becomes instilling confidence and purpose in each of my children!

I went into teaching to coach because I love working with kids. That love is still strong that's why I'm still here.

I teach because I want to have a positive impact on my community. I want to create a place where students know they are loved and valued without question, and know that they don't need to do anything to earn that love. I teach because I want students to understand that making progress and improving are things worth celebrating, and that they don't need to be perfect to be proud of what they've accomplished. I teach because I love kids!

My why is to make a difference in the lives of my students by helping my students develop their love of learning by feeling their worth, discovering and believing in their strengths, and finding their passions to make a positive impact in their world.

I teach to provide every child a safe place to try, fail, learn, try again. I teach so that kids have the opportunity to have fun adventures through reading good books. I teach because for some kids school is the only place where they can just be a kid and not worry about being hungry, lonely or getting hurt.

I do what I do to make a difference in the world by making a difference in one life at a time. It is my hope that each of those lives will make a difference one day in another life... that will make a difference in another life...

My "why" is because I always felt loved and supported throughout my childhood, whether it was family, friends, or teachers. I want to be that safe and loving person for my students. People are put into your life for a reason and I want to help my students grow daily.
