Growing up I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher; knowing what area of teaching I wanted to pursue was a question I needed to find the answer to.  My great-aunt grew up in a time when students with any type of developmental disabilities did not attend school, so therefore she did not attend school.  When I was a teenager, and she was an adult, I knew that given the chance she did have the ability to learn.  She blossomed when she was around family who cared about her, and gave her responsibilities to learn from.  As I entered college, I knew that as a teacher I wanted to work with special needs students who could gain knowledge and learn to their greatest potential.  As I pursued my Bachelor's Degree, taking classes and working in schools as part of those classes, I knew that I had made the right decision.  Being a Special Education Teacher was definitely what I wanted to do.  For 40+ years now, I have done just that.  I am very proud when a student conquers a subject matter, skill, project that they previously struggled with.  Some of my proudest moments have been on graduation night, watching them cross the stage.
